Are you struggling with design overload?

Before the pandemic, life used to be more of outdoor activity.

But now, in 2022, we do all working, socializing, and other pursuits ending with “-ING” in our homes.

Therefore, you need to adjust your residential area to suit your new way of life.

Because of the 24/7 livability, there is a shift in interior design.

Decorating trends for 2022 are all about embracing what makes you smile, what is well made, what will last, and most importantly, what makes a good reflection of you.

Anything that doesn’t assure comfort, wellness, and sustainability should go away.

So, what are these decorating trends that need to disappear in 2022?

Let’s find out!

Barn Doors

In recent years, the home décor trend has been revolving around rustic and farmhouse style.

And barn doors were highly reserved because of their vintage finish and warm, weathered wood vibes.

However, are they an elapsing fad or a growing staple in home design?

Today, there are many tremendously weird barn doors everywhere.

I mean, for every door design that someone developed, a barn door has been made- credenzas, pantries, and all sorts of doors that used to be expected have now decided to be barn doors.

So, what I’m I implying?

Of course, barn doors are evolving just like the farmhouse décor.

Their latest designs feature modern materials like metal, glass, and unique finishes.

But we have reached the peak of barn doors. So, let’s just be done with them and move on.

Suppose you fancy how their style can complement any décor style.

Many psyches behind barn doors came from popular television home makeover shows that emphasized the farmhouse style.

But let’s be honest; how many of us want to reside on anything resembling a farm?

In 2022, we are putting more focus on modern and country-style decor.

And therefore, barn doors will look out of place.

Therefore, this trend should die.

All Gray Wall and Furniture

The colors that you choose to adorn your homes with are often said to be a mirror of your collective psyche.

When you look at gray, you see a shade that is neither black nor white. It is virtually absent of color.

Therefore, it evokes fear of exposure and lack of confidence.

In challenging times, it’s natural for human beings to go for something that cheers them up and hugs them.

Now, in 2022, we are amid the Covid-19 pandemic, which is limiting social relationships.

So will you choose a moody color for your walls and furniture?

Certainly not!

The majority of designers agreed that we’re going to see less cool grays and whites in 2022.”

Gray will move into an accent position and no longer be the main color,” one said.

Some also argue there will be more of a focus on more playful walls and furniture when it comes to colors and textures.

All White Kitchen

Kitchens are everything. They are the core of every home, and that’s where you can find life.

However, it is also the room that ages the fastest in every house

Therefore, the kitchen is where your layout and design choices will matter the most among all the rooms in your home.

But the idea of an all-white kitchen including white cabinets, white flooring, white fixtures, and even white countertops doesn’t seem cool at all in 2022.

Even this survey proves that all-white kitchens are falling out of favor with Millennials.

White kitchens only look beautiful when everything is still fresh and new.

However, as they age, they turn to a slight shade of yellow, which is not aesthetically pleasing.

Also, cabinets will wear off with time, and they won’t look pretty either.

A white surrounding always feels cold and clinical. Its surfaces are also more receptive to dirt.

Therefore, when calling to attention timeless architectural designs or features, you must consider a few things before resorting to an all-white kitchen.

Dark Floors

Why is it that when you ask for a piece of advice on how to update the color in your home, you will always get suggestions revolving around walls and ceilings?

Why not floors?

There is a sleek sophistication that dark floors, including wood, tiles, concrete, and carpets, exude.

But, while that may be true, this decorating trend should never feature in 2022.

And these are the reasons why:

  • They make your space may feel smaller, darker and cave-like
  • Minor dents and scratches are easily noticeable on dark floors
  • They show every bit of dirt
  • They absorb heat faster, making space feel warmer

However, if you genuinely have a thing with dark floors, I suggest you go for a neutral shade with a gray base.

It will embrace several interior decorating schemes while hiding scratches and dirt, especially if you have pets or children around.

Open Shelving Kitchen

What is it like to live/sojourn with open shelves?

Open shelves are an impractical nightmare for anyone who wants a tidy, beautiful home.

Do you know why?

Well, when shelves are fully exposed, the items therein can easily collect dust or cooking grease.

So that calls for more cleaning.

Also, you will need to keep the things in an array at all times to avoid the shelves looking messy.

Therefore, if you are clean/orderly by nature, you can make open shelving work, but if you are not, then this trend will be a burden to you.

Also, most open shelves are not as authentically pleasing as they seem to be.

On the cover of a magazine, they look exquisite.

But in a real home, they can quickly end up looking chaotic, especially if you do not have a clear design aesthetic in mind.

So, are open shelves worth it to fit into 2022 decorating trends?

Certainly not!

It’s a big commitment to shift to an everything-on-display kitchen.

Decorating trends are meant to enhance your interior design and not detract from it.

But with this one, you can clutter things up so quickly.

Big Leather Recliners

People have been using leather in upholstery throughout the past decades because it is durable, easy to maintain, and doesn’t absorb dirt easily.

But can you consider them as incredible decorating trends?

Definitely no!

Most recliners allow for a slouched posture, which is not conducive to good back health, especially if you already have back problems.

There are also minimal options for leather recliners. In terms of color, the fabric is only available in natural form, dyed or undyed.

Because it’s ingenious, it lacks versatility in the combinations of patterns and textures.

In addition, leather is more susceptible to temperature, which may not be favorable to people with allergies. Besides, they are more bulky and costly compared to normal sofas

The electric version, which is more comfortable than the manual ones, may raise your electricity bill.

So, can you compromise your comfort for the sake of style?

You shouldn’t!

A good design should balance function and beauty.

And because oversized leather recliners have many drawbacks, they should be nowhere near 2022 decorating trends.

Glass Chinas

Over many centuries, Chinas have been fueling the most fashionable imaginations.

They boast about art, interior design graphics, and fashion as their groovy cultural heritage.

But do you know they also have an intriguing taste in glass?

Chinas offers us many glass elements, including decorative glass cabinets, tables, splashbacks, doors, windows, planters, glass jars, floors, and stairs.

Nevertheless, the use of glass, whether frosted, acid-etched, sandblasted, mirrored, or painted in contemporary designs, can add a cold, clinical feel.

And to some, glasses give a more masculine look. But mirrored glass, for sure, doesn’t guarantee privacy at all.

Therefore, despite china glass being sophisticated and versatile, they do not give the correct visual appeal needed for 2022 home designs.

Dark Furniture

Is it better to have light-or darker-toned furniture for your space?

Think of all the sofas, dining room tables/chairs, credenzas/buffets you have seen in design magazines.

In recent years, the trend in design has leaned toward dark furniture because it makes the room appear formal.

But do you need formality in 2022?

Come on!

This year has made many people spend a lot of time indoors. Therefore, you need a warm, chic space that will cheer you up.

Remember, living rooms are usually social areas.

So, you have to make it more inviting so that you can mingle naturally with your family, friends, and guests.

Light-colored furniture can give you that in a blink of an eye. It will bring more light inside; hence, making your space look big, airy, and enchanting.

Therefore, avoid dark furniture in 2022 at all costs.

Overdone Canvas/Picture Frame Wall

Does any trendy wall art call your attention?

The world of art and photography has many long-standing debates, one of which is canvas prints.

Some people argue that the texture of the canvas is not suitable for art and photography.

On the contrary, others claim that printing on canvas is a cheap way to display beautiful art and photographs.

But does texture and cost matter in classic decorating trends?

Probably yes:)

See, many companies produce tacky canvas prints, and some even go to the extend of overpricing them.

Unfortunately, it may be hard to differentiate an original work of art from imitations with the current developed technology.

So, when you opt for vivid canvas prints as your 2022 decorating trend, you will most likely spend more on something not worthy.

Besides, generic, dull, overdone, and floppy prints often give a terrible first impression.

I love the way you want to get creative with your walls, and that’s awesome.

But there are other more creative, artful, and personal ways to express your creativity, emotions, and feelings other than using overdone canvas.

Mirrored Furniture/Glam Style

Mirrored furniture was a popular decorating trend back in the 1980s.

However, it made a comeback in recent years.

But many designers think that mirrored décor should not have space in the 2022 decorating trends, and I think they are right.

Most mirrored furniture, including tables, dressers, doors, and cabinets, has a strong metallic shine that does not rhyme with every décor scheme.

Besides, the idea of having everything silver or perhaps gold overloads the senses with too much stimulation.

Of course, a little glam and sparkle can be fun. But sometimes, things can get too far and look a little fake.

For example, mirrored furniture gives the impression that you are trying to make your space look expensive.

However, it turns out to look so manufactured and overdone; it doesn’t feel authentic!

The aspect of mirrored furniture goes over the top of glam style. It is a thing of the past, and therefore, it needs to go in 2022.

There are other ways you can make your space look more expensive and premium without necessarily resorting to everything being super sparkling.
